It comes in varying types such as Alzheimer’s Dementia, Vascular Dementia, Frontotemporal Dementia and Lewy Body Dementia. Other Dementias have been identified in relation to Parkinson’s Disease, Huntington’s Disease, HIV, and more.

Toronto Memory Program
Toronto Memory Program
Toronto Memory Program is a multidisciplinary, community based medical facility specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders. They have one of the largest clinical trial programs for Alzheimer’s disease in Canada. The medical director, Dr. Sharon Cohen, is a Canadian-trained neurologist specializing in behaviour and cognition and is an internationally recognized expert in this field.
The Toronto Memory Program has two streams of resourcing treatments for their patients.
Their Memory Clinic assesses and treats adults with age-related impairment in memory, communication and thinking.
Their Clinical Trials are the hope for the future. Participating in a clinical trial allows individuals access to promising medications as well as regular access to a large team of experts for an ultimately rewarding experience.
Alzheimer’s Society Peel
The Alzheimer Society Peel exists to alleviate the personal and social consequences of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias; to help find the cause, prevention and cure. The Society provides Help for Today and Hope for Tomorrow by offering support and programs for individuals and their families affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other related dementias. Their programs are designed to help connect people living with dementia, their care partners, and families to the support, information, and resources they need as soon as possible.
The Alzheimer’s Society of Peel offers the First Link program which allows health care professionals and community agencies to refer their patients and/or clients to receive additional support. First Link will provide access for individuals with dementia and their caregivers to comprehensive and coordinated services by identifying and reaching out to them as early as possible in the disease process.
Adult Day Program
The Alzheimer Society Peel Adult Day Program is a recreational program for people with Alzheimer and other related dementias. The Day Programs provides individuals with a warm and inviting atmosphere where qualified professional staff are specially trained to care for and be sensitive to the needs of the families we serve. The Day Programs are uniquely designed for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or other irreversible dementias. Day Programs are designed with open and quiet areas, wander paths, full kitchen facilities, wheelchair accessibility and gardens. The home-like environment is safe, secure, and beautifully custom-designed for the support and enjoyment of our participants.
Nora’s House Respite Care Centre
As an extension of Alzheimer’s Society Peel, additional care is offered at Nora’s House. Nora’s house is a respite care centre that provides a home-like environment with 24/7 care. It’s a home-like environment that is custom designed for the support and enjoyment of all who stay under the care of their qualified staff, who remain on site 24/7 to provide services for each individual.
Bathing Program
Alzheimer’s Society Peel offers a Bathing Program to bring your loved ones to receive assisted showers in their Bathing Program’s comfortable spa-like environment. Highly qualified Personal Support Workers are present to provide bathing services as well as help train families on how to properly bathe and assist their loved ones while in a secure and supportive setting.
